Why do young drivers need to attend the SkidmarX Advanced Driving Course?

New drivers, especially those in their teens and early twenties, are at a higher risk on the road due to several factors. Here are some of the key risks:
Higher accident rates: New drivers are more likely to be involved in accidents, with the highest risk during the first six months of driving.
Inadequate hazard perception: New drivers may not have developed the skills to recognize and respond to hazards on the road.
Speeding: New drivers may not fully understand the risks of speeding or may feel pressure from peers to drive fast.
Reckless driving: New drivers may engage in reckless driving behaviors, such as tailgating, weaving in and out of lanes, or running red lights.
Distracted driving: New drivers are more likely to engage in distracted driving behaviors, such as texting, talking on the phone, or eating while driving.
Who can attend the SkidmarX Advanced Driving Course?
Any young driver that has completed their driving license and want to improve their confidence in handling emergency situations.
Whose car do I use?
The course is done in your own car. It is important to us that you understand how your vehicle reacts in an emergency and what the corrective meansures are in the car that you drive regularly.
What about wear and tear on my car during the course?
On the skidpan there is a negligible amount of wear on your car. It is a smooth surface we wet with water so that your car can skid easily.
Is it safe on the skidpan?
Your safety is our top priority. The skidpan is a large area with lots of space and run off.
Can my parents accompany me?
Of course they can! However, they are not allowed in the car until you have mastered each exercise, then you can show off your new skills.
We find that some parents also want to instruct from the passenger side, that’s why they must let you do your own thing first.
Can I bring a passenger?
You are welcome to bring a passenger. The cost is R350 per person.
